- A lump or swelling in the front of the neck
- Hoarseness or voice change
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing
- A persistent cough not due to a cold
- Swollen neck lymph nodes
How it is diagnosed
- Neck ultrasound
- FNAC of the thyroid nodule
- Thyroid function blood tests
- Scans for staging when needed
Treatment options
- Thyroid surgery (lobectomy or total thyroidectomy)
- Neck dissection when nodes are involved
- Radioactive iodine therapy via partner centres
- Thyroid hormone replacement and follow-up
Frequently asked questions
Are all thyroid lumps cancer?
No. The large majority of thyroid nodules are benign. An ultrasound and FNAC test help tell benign nodules from cancer.
